Mark Wright: a story of determination and resilience

After a catastrophic brain injury and time in prison, Mark Wright faced enormous challenges. Today, lifelong Leicester City fan Mark lives in his own home, cooking, shopping, and going to football matches, supported by a team he now calls family.

More than 20 years ago, Mark Wright joined CareTech’s Specialist Services at Oakleaf in Northampton, seeking help at one of the most challenging times in his life. After suffering a catastrophic brain injury and spending time in prison, Mark faced enormous obstacles—physically, emotionally, and socially. He needed support to rebuild his life, and Oakleaf became the place where that transformation began.

With the help of a dedicated team of CareTech professionals, Mark embarked on an extraordinary journey of recovery. Through intensive therapy and physiotherapy, he learned how to walk again and regained the ability to carry out everyday tasks. It wasn’t easy—every step required determination and resilience—but Mark never gave up.

Today, lifelong Leicester City supporter Mark lives independently in a self-contained home, with support available whenever he needs it. He cooks his own meals, does his shopping, and enjoys going to football matches whenever he can. For Mark, independence is more than a goal—it’s a reality he worked tirelessly to achieve.

His success is a testament to the power of specialist care and the unwavering commitment of the Oakleaf team, who Mark now calls family. Together, they’ve helped him turn adversity into opportunity, proving that with the right support, extraordinary outcomes are possible.
